Client: Municipality of Anchorage, Project Management & Engineering Department

PTS Services:

  • Field Survey

  • Civil Engineering

  • Design Study Report

  • Public Involvement

The Geneva Woods South Storm Drainage Project area is located East of the New Seward Highway, South of East 36th Avenue, and North of Tudor Road. The scope of the project is to address conditions of a poorly functioning Municipal storm drain system, evaluate various drainage improvement alternatives, and recommend a design solution. This project may be expanded to include design and construction pending future funding.

PTS was awarded the Field Survey and Design Study Services for this project in 2021 and completed the Field Survey in summer of 2021. The conditions of the storm drain system are being assessed and PTS is proceeding with the Design Study Report to address potential repair alternatives and determine a feasibility solution. Along with directly influenced design challenges, the project design is being indirectly influenced by factors that include sensitive wetland of the Helen Louise McDowell Sanctuary and Fish Creek, nearby neighborhoods, poor soils, and ongoing development and improvements to the New Seward Highway by the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities. Solutions being considered include geosynthetic supported trench sections, deep foundational supports for new storm pipe and various alignment alternatives. Public involvement engagements have been initiated to inform the public and solicit feedback.
